Update – 12:15 PM

News conference states that Creigh Deeds was alert and talking before, during and since he arrived at the hospital. The State Police spokeswoman is not saying that the gunshot wound that killed Gus Deeds, Creigh’s son, was self inflicted. She did not release any information on how the fatal injury occurred.

In other words, the State Police had a news conference that said they are not releasing anything other than one death and one injury.

No motive released and there is no search for any other suspects.

They may be having another conference at 3 PM.

Update – 10:31 AM –

A second person was found dead in Deeds’ home. Virginia State Police responded to his home around 7:25 a.m. Tuesday.  Virginia State Police described Creigh Deeds’ injuries as serious.

(The report of a second death may not be accurate. Or just poor wording in the linked report. Checking.)

The details are just coming in but State Senator Creigh Deeds has been wounded and is in serious or critical condition and his son Gus is dead from a gunshot wound.

Please pray for Senator Deeds and his family.

These reports are officially unconfirmed. But confirmation is expected momentarily.

UPDATE: This is now confirmed.

The Virginia State Police have released the following statement:

Virginia State Police are on the scene of an assault of a state legislator that took place Tuesday morning (Nov. 19). Senator Creigh Deeds has been transported to UVA Hospital in Charlottesville for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the assault at his residence.

At 7:25 a.m., Virginia State Police responded to Senator Deeds’ residence in Bath County. Senator Deeds was flown from the scene to UVA Hospital. A second individual at the residence is deceased.

The investigation remains ongoing at this time by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Salem Field Office.
